This year's Variety, the Children's Charity event Let Them Eat Cake promises to be the messiest and yummiest ever! The theme In the Jungle conjures up images of monkeys, swinging vines and spooky forests. Bakers will be sure to let their imaginations run wild as they mix up their batter and create edible masterpieces.
Thirty-five of the best bakers in our area will mix it up by creating the most decadent, delicious and daring wedding cakes. The Millennium ballroom at the Loew's Hotel, 1200 Market Street on Sunday March 5, 2017 is the place where you can see, taste and take home as much cake as you can carry.
A hundred percent of the proceeds benefit Variety, the children's charity and the work it does with special needs kids. A group of the children will compete during a special competition of their own. Enjoy a one-of-a-kind performance by the Philadelphia Dance Academy, a champagne bar and music.
The 21st Israeli Film Festival gets underway Saturday March 4 with the debut of Mr Predictable. The movie tells the story of a man who thinks he is dying so radically changes his outlook on the last days he has to live.

Join us for the premiere of Mr Gaga, a documentary about one of the most famous dance troupe's and its innovative choreographer. Director Barak Heymann will be on hand for a Q and A session. The film, will be shown at the Perelman Theatre in the Kimmel Center, and dinner with the film maker at Estia takes place after the screening.

The movie, now in development, tells the story of the Ayalon bullet factory from 1947-49 in Rehovet outside of the Tel Aviv. Film makers have tracked down the last of the original workers who helped turn the tide during Israel's War of Independence. For two years these brave teenagers manufactured ammo 8 meters underground, in a bunker hidden by a laundry facility. All told more than 2 million bullets were produced and smuggled to freedom fighters around the country.
The documentary celebrates their deeds and the dangerous times in which they lived.. The goal is to have the film finished by 2018 in time for Israel's 70th anniversary.

First time Israeli author Karnit Goldwasser will discuss her harrowing search to find her abducted husband, a soldier in the IDF, on the brink of war. Her two year ordeal is chronicled in her book, Finding the Way Back to you. Flavors and Fermentations to benefit City of Hope’s Cancer Walk
What is your idea of food and drink heaven? Is it a glass of Victory Ale alongside a Dump N Roll’s bacon turkey cheeseburger tempura wonton? How about a frothy 1906 with Gigi’s Caribbean Soul food surprise? These delicious bites and more will be featured at the finish of the City Of Hope’s Women’s Cancer Walk. The food truck and beer pairing competition, a Brotherly Love first, will be offered to participants beginning at 11:30 AM on Sunday, September 13, 2015. Registration opens at 9 AM.
The walk starts on Rutgers Campus in New Jersey and continues over the Ben Franklin Bridge. The 3 mile trek winds up in Old City Philadelphia at the historic Arch Street Meeting house. In its 17th year, this classic Philadelphia event will simultaneously shine a spotlight on advancements in cancer research and celebrate local snacks and suds. Participants will vote for their favorite mouth watering mobile eatery concoction and the accompanying spirit. Winning truck receives an all expenses paid trip to St. Lucia. As if beer and food trucks aren’t enough, walkers will also be treated to purple cupcakes, a prosecco tasting, and other snacks!
This year’s walk will be dedicated to the memory of Rose Julien who lost her courageous battle with cancer ten months ago. She was an inspiration to all and led her team the “Rosebuds” on foot even when very ill. Her husband Joe remarked that Rose “… will be sorely missed but hopefully her fearless attitude will be an example to others undergoing the same challenges.”

Let Them Eat Cake is Philadelphia's premiere Wedding Cake Design competition. Benefitting the City of Hope, in this it's 10th year, the theme is 'Masterpieces in Art' Professionals, students and those who love to create edible pieces of sugar will vie to be crowned the best of the best.
The Crystal Tea Room is the site where brides-to-be and fondant foodies converge to ogle and taste more than 40 out of this world confections. For the first time, marriages of all types, including gay and lesbian couples will be represented.

A documentary about the covert bullet factory in Israel, Ayalon, is in the works. Almost seventy years after the fact-it is time for the heroic story, of the men and women who helped ensure the survival of the state of Israel, to finally be told. The film crew will travel to the Holy Land and interview the last of the original workers. In their own words you will hear about the threat of death under which they toiled and how their long ago labors resonate today.
This party will roll out the developments so far and what is next for this long overdue project.

A retrospective of the “Let Art Freedom ring” 6 foot tall 3-D 21st century bells created by area schoolchildren will be on display. Thirteen of the bells, representing the original colonies, will be showcased in and around HeadHouse Square, South Street and Fabric Row. After learning about civics and the Constitution in a specially tailored program, the children then depicted their version of art freedom on this life-sized iconic emblem.
In 2013 to mark the 225-th anniversary of the signing of the Constitution in Philadelphia, a special 10 foot tall “We the People” bell will be created. The public will be allowed to add their personal touches to this bell and its progress will be posted via social media. After a month’s worth of activities this one-of-a-kind bell will be auctioned for charity.
